Celebrating Success

Always good to celebrate the success of those with whom you work and coach. I was initially asked by my former Yawara Ryu student Terry Donovan and later commissioned by their father Dean Sugden, to coach Chad and Regis Sugden in MMA, No-Gi Jiu Jitsu, Submission-wrestling and Strength & Conditioning. I worked intensively with these athletes in 2011(including a six week full time professional style MMA training camp).

Invited by their father to continue coaching the lads Jiu jitsu I was unable to accept this invitation. However I noted with some pride that within less than ten months of me coaching Chad & Regis they had come second and third in the Nottingham Open Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships. A result achieved having just had ten sessions at Victor Estima’s Nottingham Jiu Jitsu Academy, to learn the rules and adapt to competition wearing a Gi, testimony to their adaptability and the quality of coaching received from Victor Estima.

A first rate result for two talented young (eighteen and seventeen respectively), aspiring MMA fighters and the coaches who contributed directly to this success. I am certain that we will hear more about these two in MMA and in the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as they benefit from working with their new Jiu Jitsu Coach Victor Estima.
